Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year

CNY is always the same for me. I visit my granny and stay there the whole day. Gamble with my cousins, from black jack to majong to playing Jenga and computer games. I even added Chinese Chess to this year's activities. We played Indian Poker and the ever famous WU GUI game. I was not there when the family was learning the 'Mafia' game, but as I expected; it was too complicated for the old folks to learn. Somehow gambling is always up and then down all the way.

Majong: I made really big cards and won a lot....then I started to lose badly. Kept feeding people the winning cards. I think it is my majong stamina, after a while I get bored and I stop thinking. That is when I start to make mistakes. Sigh!!!! No win no lose from MJ.

Blackjack: Lousy cards all the time. Coupled with the fact the banker was my ever lucky cousin. Lost a bit.

3 cards: This is a new game. It is pretty hard to explain the concept and it took a while to teach me how to calculate the cards. It is very fast...you pool the money and then just add the 3 cards. Mod the total by 10, if u get 0, it is the biggest. So easy, but this is where I lost the most money. PUI!!!!

Food was abundant as usual. It was good, infact I thought the 3rd day's dishes were the best. Probably it was because my cousin's German friends came. Curry was up to standard, so was the ngo hiang and the battered prawns. I think I gained 10kg from new year.

Is it in the genes?

Even though my father has not been part of my life physically for the last 15years or so, I realise I am becoming like him when it comes to how we handling family situations.

I am not saying his ways are bad, but they are definately not the best. I told myself never to end up like him, but here I am walking the same path.

Is it coded in my genes?

8 hours

I was going to do my laundry in hall till I realised that all the washing machines were all used. I thought nothing of it as it was common.

I went to settle some stuff with a friend on the same level as the laundry room. So I sneaked a peep inside and found the washing machine all in used.

I came back few hours later and found all the washing machines still in used. I finally decided to check carefully. I found all of it were either set to 8 hours or 3 hours washing time....

WHO THE FUCK WASHES AND SOAKS FOR 3 or8 HOURS?! AND TO USE UP ALL THE WASHING MACHINE! GOODNESS!!!! SOME BLOODY CONSIDERATION PLEASE!!!

Johor

Went to johor with 2 old friends, gab and tiong. The latter drove us to Jusco to have a look at the shopping center. Quite a good place to hang out, but don't have the mood to shop. So just went to eat Baskin Robbins.

We went over to this really remote area to have seafood - Orang Asli Villiage. Food was cheap, place was old school. Really great place to chill with beer and just bum.

Some photos I took with my phone....

My personal favourite...

Andy's Wedding

Just a picture to remind me what Bei Lim did - a whole cup of whiskey and beer. Trying to get us all drunk!!!

Snacks on Stick

I associate food on sticks as snacks, quick bites when quality does not really matter. Think Old chang kee. A quick motion - bite, pull and dump the stick. I thought not much can be done to the small strip of food.

Boy was I wrong when I stepped into Kazu at Cuppage. I was warned to make a reservation, but I did not have the number and thought I went pretty early to avoid the crowd. The waitress informed me that I had an hour as I was sitting at a table reserved for someone else. With that in mind and the fact that yakitori had to be done only when the order is made, I decided to just go with the set and whale sashimi.

Some lettuce with some lemon and a sesame based sauce cleared my stomach for the meal. The sashimi was very fresh, melts in your mouth and burned a hole in my pocket. $6 bucks a peice. The yakitori rocks. Cooked to perfection. I would love to order from the menu if I had more time to slowly choose.

And the company was great too. (*wink* Got add points for that?)

Will definately be back for more.

Majong

I am not a big fan of majong. I just don't have the concentration span to sit there and play. Majong requires brain power which I am lacking in it I think. Too many combinations and rules to remember. I prefer just watching TV, sleeping or gaming.

But I decided to join my police friends for a majong session since they have been complaining that I have been M.I.A and one of them came back from Australia. A plus point is that they were playing in NTU. The majong session thought me some new combinations to win in and also that alcohol with majong is not a right choice. I brought a bottle of whiskey over. Whiskey clouds your judgement, you become wreckless. The alcohol makes one feel 'happy'. But whiskey also allowed me to forget about how boring it was to sit there and look at cards, it leveled the playing field so I can win more games.

Overall I won about $10. Yeah. Maybe it can be a strategy next time.
